Atsuki Tofukuji, president of BYD COMPANY (01211.HK) +1.600 (+0.658%) Short selling $640.98M; Ratio 41.208% subsidiary BYD Auto Japan, revealed earlier in an interview with foreign media that the subsidiary intends to expand its sales network to almost all prefectures this year, and that it is considering building a sales system with 90 shops nationwide.
BYD Auto Japan currently has sales outlets in 32 prefectures. Tofukuji pointed out that expansion to the remaining 15 prefectures is in the planning stage, and he expected that by the end of the year, all prefectures should basically have a shop selling BYD cars.
BYD is currently launching three models in the Japanese market, including SUVs and sedans. Tofukuji revealed that the group is studying the launch of new models in the country. As for the announcement by the US and the European Union that they will impose tariffs on EVs produced in the mainland, Tofukuji said he would wait and see what happens as it does not amount to a total ban.
