NIO debuts advanced fourth-gen battery swap stations with NVIDIA chips, enabling autonomous capabilities and faster service, revolutionizing electric vehicle charging infrastructure in China.

NIO Inc.NIO reportedly inaugurated its fourth-generation battery swap stations, commencing operations for stations capable of accommodating multi-brand models without requiring modifications.

Today, the company launched two fourth-generation stations, one in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, and another in Luan, Anhui province, CnEV Post reported, citing its mobile app.

Equipped with six ultra-wide-angle LiDARs, four NVIDIA CorporationsNVDA Orin X chips, and boasting a total computing power of 1,016 Tops, the fourth-generation station represents a substantial leap in hardware capability.

Nio envisions that the enhanced hardware will enable these stations to support vehicles autonomously performing services and self-parking in more intricate environments in the future.

The Luan site marks the inaugural collaboration between Nio and Zhongan Energy, established earlier this year with the aim of constructing 1,000 stations equipped with energy storage, charging, and battery swap capabilities.

Nios fourth-generation battery swap station reduces service time by 22%, increases battery storage to 23 units, and facilitates up to 480 services per day, CnEV Post added.

The third-generation battery swap station, which began installation in April 2023, can now store up to 21 battery packs, a significant increase from the 13 in its predecessor and five in the initial generation of the facility.

Additionally, Nios fourth-generation battery swap stations are designed to be more inclusive, supporting the servicing of multi-brand vehicles with varying sizes of battery packs.

Today, Nios next-generation liquid-cooled superchargers were also activated, boasting a maximum charging power of 640 kW and a maximum output current of 765A, CnEV Post added.

According to the company, when utilizing the next-generation supercharger, Nios long-range battery packs with a capacity of 100 kWh can charge from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes.

Presently, Nio has 2,275 supercharging stations across China, providing a total of 10,390 charging piles, along with 1,598 destination charging stations offering 12,243 charging piles, the report read.

Price Action: NIO shares closed lower by 0.22% to $4.4500 on Wednesday.
