The Hang Seng Index dipped 86.18 points, or 0.49 percent, to open at 17,653.23 points on Thursday.
The sell-off came after the S&P 500 on Wednesday registered its biggest fall since April, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq saw its biggest fall since December 2022, losing 1.4 percent and 2.8 percent respectively.
